Fresh - A Plein Air Event

Dare Arts invites artists to participate in Fresh- A Plein Air Event, which will be held September 2-4, 2026. ​It’s a wonderful time of year to get outside, connect with other artists, and discover the beauty and charm of the Outer Banks.​ Prospectus Registration Know Before You Go Location Ideas Exhibition Details + Plein Air Info: All plein air pieces created during Fresh- A Plein Air Event will be featured in an exhibit at the Dare Arts’ Gallery in September. The exhibit will open during First Friday festivities at 6pm on Friday, September 4. The opening reception is free and open to the public, and is a wonderful opportunity to meet and connect with plein air artists. The show will remain open during normal gallery hours from September 5 through September 26.​​​ ​​If you’re not familiar with the plein air (open-air) movement, you will quickly become a fan. It started in 19th Century France as artists took to the outdoors to find inspiration and see how sunlight affected their paintings. This artistic revolution quickly gained popularity in the 1800s and remains a favored style of painting today. ​
